MANILA, Philippines — An explosion allegedly caused by an improvised explosive device occurred near the entrance of the Department of Justice compound in Manila early Monday, July 27.
The blast happened at around 12:17 a.m. on Padre Faura Street in Ermita, the DOJ said in a statement.

No casualties were reported.
The Philippine National Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit was immediately notified and responded to conduct a technical examination.
"Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, nature, and circumstances surrounding the explosion," the DOJ said in a statement.
"The situation is currently under control, and the DOJ compound remains secure. The DOJ remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of its personnel and the general public, while supporting a comprehensive and impartial investigation," it added.
Separate incident. An improvised explosive device was also recovered near the Senate premises Monday morning, according to Pasay police.
Authorities have yet to say whether the two incidents ahead of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr's sixth State of the Nation Address on Monday afternoon are connected. — with Ian Laqui
