MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Provident Villages in Marikina have signed a petition to oppose the proposed tree-cutting activities to pave the way for a bridge project.
Around 21 trees will be cut in line with the Marikina bridge project connecting the village to Marcos Highway.
The trees bear the sign “Save me, say no to tree cutting.”
Around 500 residents signed a petition urging authorities to look for alternative ways to preserve the old trees.
They said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources should seek community approval before pushing through with the tree-cutting activities.
