MANILA, Philippines — A green park set for construction in Pandacan, Manila will help reduce pollution in the surrounding expressways and provide a safe space for residents, officials said yesterday.

Plaza Azul Senior Citizen and Pet Park will be built below the Skyway Stage 3.

Yesterday’s groundbreaking ceremony was led by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando Artes, Mayor Isko Moreno and Budget Undersecretary Goddes Hope Libiran.

The park will have “open spaces and activity lawns for relaxation, a pavilion, a children’s playground, outdoor fitness equipment, a jogging path, a senior citizen pavilion, a basketball court, a multi-purpose court for sports, a kiosk area and community events,” the MMDA said.

Artes said the park would be maintained using a system that collects rainwater.

Moreno said the project followed the efforts of San Miguel Corp., which operates Skyway Stage 3 and installed lights beneath the expressway parallel to Osmeña Highway in October 2025.
