MANILA, Philippines — A boxcontaining 1,902 wild spiders was seized at the General Santos International Airport on Friday.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Aviation Security Group said the shipment was bound for Iloilo.
The spiders were placed in resealable plastic sachets and detected by airport x-ray scanners at past 3 p.m.
Authorities said the shipment was confiscated for violating Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
The spiders were turned over to the DENR for proper disposition.
Probers have yet to determine the sender and receiver of the shipment.
