MANILA, Philippines — Following a cyber attack in May last year, the firearm licensing system of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has been strengthened into an advanced and fortified platform.

Featuring anti-malware protection, web reputation monitoring, activity tracking, device control, a web application firewall, intrusion prevention and two-factor authentication, the upgraded system will ensure faster and safer transactions for the public, according to the PNP.

“These innovations reflect our commitment to digital transformation and public service excellence,” PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said yesterday.

The police Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO), Marbil said, had implemented reforms to streamline the procedure and enhance accessibility.

Integration with the National Police Clearance System, a mobile application, additional e-payment gateways, SIM card-based client credentials and regional kiosk installations are being introduced by the FEO, in coordination with the PNP Information Technology Management Service.

The upgraded system enhances the licensing experience and reinforces national security and public safety by preventing cyber threats and unauthorized access, the FEO said.
