P39 million marijuana seized in Bulacan

MANILA, Philippines —  Marijuana worth about P39 million was surrendered to the police in Balagtas, Bulacan on Wednesday.

The illegal item, weighing 26 kilos, was surrendered by a woman to the Balagtas police, according to Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, Central Luzon police director.

The woman told police the marijuana was shipped from Toronto, Canada by a certain Paul. She said the package was intended for her brother who is in jail on illegal drug charges.

Sensing the parcel contained illegal drugs, the woman turned the package over to the police.

Police opened the package in front of barangay officials, members of media and representatives of the Department of Justice.

Maranan ordered an investigation into the matter to identify people who smuggled the marijuana.

Meanwhile, a high-value drug suspect was arrested in a sting that resulted in the recovery of shabu worth P510,000 in Batangas City on Wednesday.

The suspect reportedly yielded 75 grams of shabu following the sting in Barangay Calicanto.

Aside from the illegal substance, police seized marked money worth P11,000 from the suspect.
