Slain rebels in Batangas clashes identified

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Authorities have identified the three alleged New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas killed in clashes in Batangas on Sunday.

Relatives yesterday claimed the remains of Jian Marcus Tayco, alias Reb and Joen, who was killed in a series of skirmishes in Tuy.

The other fatalities were identified by their comrades only by their aliases, Jet and Jeorge, who reportedly surrendered to authorities following the encounters that broke out in Barangays Acle and Bolboc.

The clashes prompted residents to flee and seek shelter in covered courts to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
