MANILA, Philippines — A man has been arrested for allegedly using the name of Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil in extorting from illegal establishments in Calabarzon.

Deanson Magsino was arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Barangay Poblacion 1 in Sto. Tomas, Batangas on Wednesday, the CIDG reported yesterday.

Magsino was arrested after the CIDG received a report that a man with a gun tucked in his waist was seen walking along Gen. Malvar Avenue. He reportedly yielded a .45-caliber pistol with bullets.

Marbil ordered CIDG director Maj. Gen. Leo Franciso to intensify the crackdown against people who are using his name in illegal activities.
