ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A single gunshot to the left temple killed a former barangay captain in Leon town in Iloilo yesterday.
Teresa Amualla, former captain and current treasurer of Barangay Cabolo-an, died following a gun attack in nearby Barangay Bacolod, some 20 kilometers away from the Leon town proper at 6:30 a.m. yesterday.
Members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office brought the victim to the Rural Health Unit where Amualla was declared dead on arrival.
The victim’s son-in-law drove her to Barangay Bacolod early yesterday to catch a ride bound for the town proper, according to reports.
Leon police chief Lt. Danilo Noca said Amualla intended to submit some documents to the Liga ng mga Barangay office.
Amualla was sitting at the waiting shed when motorcycle-riding men stopped at a distance of about 10 meters. Noca said the backrider alighted from the motorcycle, approached the victim and shot her in the head.
Responding policemen recovered two fired cartridges at the crime scene.
Investigators are still at a loss on what could have triggered the killing.
Authorities have yet to determine if the incident can be considered as election-related.
