ALAMINOS CITY, Philippines – Shellfish samples from the coastal waters here were found positive for red tide toxin, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
In Shellfish Bulletin 24 issued on Wednesday, BFAR regional director Nestor Domenden said concerned local government units should require market inspectors, quarantine officers and administrators to demand clearance from transporters and dealers of fish and shellfish to ensure that these did not come from areas found positive for paralytic shellfish poisoning.
He also advised the public not to eat shellfish gathered from the waters of Alaminos until further notice.
