ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – The election registration board (ERB) here has granted the petition of House Deputy Speaker Ma. Isabel Climaco to disqualify former Zamboanga del Norte congressman Romeo Jalosjos as a voter in this city.
Climaco cited Republic Act 8189 or the Voters Registration Act that prohibits an ex-convict to vote within five years after the service of sentence.
The ERB, which is composed of election officer Joseph Ian Tria, civil registrar Alexander Elias and school superintendent Pedro Natividad, rendered their decision late Friday after two separate hearings.
At a press briefing, Jalosjos said he was expecting the ERB decision. He vowed to raise the issue even up to the Supreme Court.
