Lightning kills 3, injures 3 in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Three villagers died on the spot while three others suffered third-degree burns when a lightning struck them in Ligao City last Tuesday afternoon, the authorities said.

Albay Gov. Joey Salceda, in a text message to The STAR, identified the fatalities as Reynaldo Prias, Jogi Pobar, and Miguel Olazo, all of Barangay Tinampo, and those injured as Joel Borromeo, Rogelio Prades, and Anthony Realingo, who are still confined at the Josefina-Belmonte Duran Memorial Hospital in Ligao City.

Reports said the victims were taking a rest in an open space during a thunderstorm when the lightning struck them.

Last July 25, four villagers also died while two others sustained major burns when a lightning hit them in Baao, Camarines Sur. – With Cecille Suerte Felipe
