MANILA, Philippines - Seven soldiers were killed in an ambush by suspected New People’s Army rebels in Bontoc, Mt. Province yesterday morning.
Those killed were identified as 1Lt. Lito Punio, Cpl. Cornelio Balmes, Pfc. Camilo Topinio, Pfc. Windel Gazzingan, S/Sgt. Melchor Castro, Pfc. Anthony Banugan, and Pfc. James Tio-an, all belonging to the 52nd Division Recognizance Company.
Police said the soldiers were on their way to a meeting in Bontoc for their medical mission today when they were attacked by more than 20 rebels.
