Bombing of Kalinga fiscal’s house scored

TABUK, Kalinga — Officials and lawyers in Kalinga and Apayao have condemned the bombing of the residence of a female prosecutor here last May 15.

According to a belated police report, the bomb fashioned from several sticks of dynamite was hurled at the house of Kalinga prosecutor Mercedez Pekas Banes at about 1 a.m., damaging her car and portions of her house and shattering the windows of her neighbor’s.

In a resolution, 10 Kalinga officials led by Gov. Macario Duguiang and Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Kalinga-Apayao chapter president Rainer Sarol said they were shocked by the incident because has had an unblemished record.

They added that the attack was not only a threat to Banes and her family but "also to the administration of justice in the province."

Senior Inspector Jose Luces, officer-in-charge of the Tabuk police, said they have no solid clues yet on the attack although he suspects that it might have something to do with the cases of heinous crimes which Banes handles.
