UK government bats for interfaith dialogues

Newly-designated British Ambassador to Manila Paul Dimond proposed yesterday the holding of an "inter-faith dialogues" between Christians and Muslims as a more lasting solution to the conflict in Mindanao.

At a public forum on counter-terrorism, Dimond said the British government is willing to share its experience in dealing with religious conflicts in Northern Ireland which will help countries address the same problem.

"We are ready in lending our experience and hope that the dialogues can help the Philippines," Dimond said.

He added that the United Kingdom has been pushing for an "inter-faith dialogues" for countries experiencing crisis similar to the conflict in Mindanao and Northern Ireland which has been affecting the development and security in the areas.

Dimond is optimistic that the proposal will be implemented soon to end religious conflict.
