MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will coordinate with the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to investigate reports that members of criminal syndicates based in China are traveling to the country to rob Chinese businessmen, an official said yesterday.
BI deputy spokesperson Dana Krizia Mengote said they would attempt to identify the suspects, determine the frequency of their trips to the country and assess the frequency of their travels.
“We will check if there is a pattern, if there is a trend,” she said.
Mengote said they will also checking the International Police (Interpol) database for more information on the gangs.
The NCRPO earlier reported that members of criminal syndicates from China sneak into the country to rob Chinese businessmen.
Authorities learned about this modus operandi after one of their alleged victims filed a complaint with the Manila Police District about a P7.6-million robbery.
The robbers, armed with handguns, told him to deposit money in a bank in China through the Internet.
