Police filed double murder charges yesterday against the president of a fraternity at the Mapua Institute of Technology for the killing of two members of a rival fraternity in the same school.
This developed as a follow-up team of policemen returned empty-handed last Sunday following a stakeout in Batangas province, where the prime suspect was reportedly sighted.
“We filed the double murder charges since the evidence against Genesis Gabrielle Pongol is strong. We have several witnesses identifying him as the one who stabbed two Mapua students who died on their way to the hospital,” Chief Inspector Dominador Arevalo Jr., who heads the homicide section of the Manila Police District (MPD), said.
Several witnesses claim that Pongol, 20, a third year mechanical engineering student at Mapua, stabbed Jose Mari Villareal, 19, and Gino Raymundo, 21, on the night of March 15 near the Mapua campus in Intramuros.
Villareal and Raymundo were both Mapua students and members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity, while Pongol is the president of the Batangas Varsitarian fraternity at the same school. – Nestor Etolle
