2,000 women join Taguig march

Close to 2,000 women in Taguig City yesterday and joined a march to celebrate Women’s Month as well as raise funds for a Women’s Crisis Center in the city.

Dubbed “Alay Lakad para sa Kababaihan”, the march gathered women from all over the city to raise awareness on women’s issues, and promote women empowerment and development in the city.

“For a long time, many people have overlooked the important role of women in our society and in our very own lives. It is high time that we, particularly men, recognize their heroics by being aware of their rights and supporting their noble causes,” Kaye Tiñga, wife of Taguig Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga, said.

Installed just last year, the Taguig Women’s Crisis Center is a 24-hour institution built by the city government and Soroptomist International Taguig Chapter. The center, located in Barangay Signal Village, attends to the needs of women who have been physically, emotionally and sexually abused. – Rhodina Villanueva
