MANILA, Philippines - Halloween saw some pretty outre outfits. There were topical costumes — H1N1 and Manny Pacquiao made for some serious highlights — and plays on the new vampire (ghostface makeup with glitter to mimic Twilight’s Edward Cullen, complete with pout and disheveled ‘do), along with slutty Cinderella, slutty Alice in Wonderland and plenty more. But partygoers who simply put on a hat — as though headgear still counts for costume in today’s world of feathered headbands and Mich Dulce — clearly weren’t making an effort.
In London, more than a few designers put their own spin on headgear in an exhibit dubbed “Hedonism.” A ballgag headpiece with an apple over the mouth (commentary on Snow White, perhaps?) drew mixed reactions, while a hat made from what appeared to be lit Christmas floral ornaments was a showstopper. There’s no room for wallflowers with hats like these.
