KELOWNA, Canada — Audio streaming platform Spotify is rolling out a new messaging feature for users to better share the content they listen to.
The platform mentioned in a post on its website that users have been asking for "a dedicated space within the app to share songs, podcasts, or audiobooks" with loved ones, as well as an easy way to keep track of recommendations.

The new Messages feature will allow users to contact people they have interacted with before. Spotify content can still be shared on other applications like Instagram and TikTok.
While a song, podcast, or audiobook is running in Now Playing View, the share icon offers the option to select a friend to send a Spotify content.
Suggestions for fellows users to message are based on whether one has shared Spotify content with them in the past, joined Jams, Blends, or collaborative playlists together, or if shares a Family or Duo plan with the other person.

Upon accepting a message request, users can also send texts and react with emojis. One can opt to reject message requests and report content or accounts that may violate the Spotify'sTerms of Use and Platform Rules.
Users can also block other users or even opt out of the Messages feature entirely in the platform settings.
The platform assured that conversations are protected with "industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest," and it will "utilize proactive detection technology to scan messages for certain unlawful and harmful content," which will be reviewed by moderators.
The Messages feature will begin rolling out in select markets on mobile devices to Free and Premium users aged 16 years old and above.
