Makeup isn’t rocket science

These days, it’s in vogue for makeup artists not only to have their own style but also to rule the world of fashion and beauty. Chase Aston, international makeup artist and spokesperson for The Body Shop, is a perfect example. From Kate Moss to Britney Spears and even the Sugarbabes to the ex-members of the Spice Girls, there is no doubt that celebrities have been touched by his magical makeup skills.

Chase Aston, who has worked with The Body Shop for more than eight years now, has constantly been advising product teams and training staff worldwide. During the Make Me Fabulous press event in Hong Kong, Chase gave tidbits of information on The Body Shop products and, of course, makeup tips to enhance the Filipina beauty:

• Make Me Fabulous in a flash. The Body Shop’s new makeup has high-impact, excellent formulations with ergonomical packaging that gives absolute value for money. It’s the only makeup brand where you can layer powder over liquid.

• Marula nut oil is the key ingredient. The Body Shop is the first and only global brand that has marula nut oil in the makeup range to moisturize dry and oily skin. Plus, it helps makeup stay on the skin longer.

• Shimmer makeup will always be in. It is like lip gloss that will never go out of style. Compared to matte makeup, shimmer pumps up the volume.

• Never say never with makeup color. If you are daring enough to wear blue eye shadow, then use a sheer shade like indigo.

• Makeup rules are meant to be broken. The only rule to follow is that when you wear foundation and powder, it must be close to your skin tone. If you are dark and want to wear a lighter foundation, it will look chalky on the skin because it won’t blend properly.

• Makeup isn’t rocket science. It is not like having a bad haircut and you get depressed. With makeup, if you don’t like it, you wash it off and start again.

• Colors to avoid for warm skin tones. The Blueberry Cream Eye color is one of the best shades that will match tan-skinned women. It’s a bit shimmery and not difficult to apply. For the lips, avoid bright orange or flamingo pink.

• Must-haves for Filipinas. Obviously, go for the Lip and Cheek Stain together with the Cream Cheek Blush in Grape. Use the Creamy Eye Color in Dust Pink and Shimmer Waves, which can be used to add sparkle on the cheeks and even highlight the eyes. – Rebecca C. Rodriguez
