MANILA, Philippines - Due to an overwhelming response from Philippine audience and nightly standing ovations, The Phantom of the Opera in Manila has announced a further 16 shows but must close on Oct. 14.
Producer James Cundall, CEO of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, said, “The unbelievable acceptance of the Philippine audience to the show encouraged us to extend the season, adding 16 more shows.”
The Guinness Book of World Records has now officially declared The Phantom of the Opera as the longest-running Broadway show in history as of September 2012. Since 1986, the musical has been going strong, reaching 10,000 performances at the Majestic Theater in New York in February 2012. This well-loved musical continues to play to full houses nightly in London, New York and around the world. It has been seen by over 130 million people worldwide, in more than 27 countries, has won over 50 major theater awards, and has grossed more than $5.6 billion.
Presented in Manila by Smart Infinity and Citibank in cooperation with Philippine Airlines as the official carrier, The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a disfigured musical genius known only as ‘The Phantom’ who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerised by the talents and beauty of young soprano Christine, the Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine’s love for Raoul, The Phantom’s obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness and passions collide.
This must-see performance features 130 international cast and orchestra members of the touring production together with Filipino Tenor, Dondi Ong and the finest local musicians; exhibiting jaw-dropping scenery, breathtaking special effects and more than 230 intricate costumes by international designer, the late Maria Björnson.
Students can now avail of a discount exclusively for Balcony 1 and 2 seats throughout the season for a limited offer. Family Packages offer up to 40-percent discount on the third and fourth tickets.
