MANILA, Philippines — The Senate resumes session Monday, May 25, with political tensions again circling the chamber, recently over issues tied to Sen. Rodante Marcoleta’s campaign donors and renewed talk of a leadership shakeup against Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano.
The session comes just two weeks after Cayetano took the Senate presidency in a surprise coup that also reshaped committee chairmanships and the chamber’s handling of high-stakes proceedings, including Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial and the Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa’s evasion from an International Criminal Court arrest.
