MANILA, Philippines — If she had her way, former socioeconomic planning chief Winnie Monsod wants the current Senate majority ousted for losing their moral compass.

“It is really disgusting what the senators are doing,” Monsod said yesterday. “They’re making the Filipino people idiots.”

Monsod joined the “Kampana para sa Hustisya” protest along Ayala Avenue in Makati, organized by the groups August Twenty-One Movement, Makati Villages Council, Manindigan Na and Tindig Pilipinas. They are calling for the arrest of Sen. Ronald dela Rosa and the unimpeded impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Monsod slammed the Senate, under Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano, for protecting Dela Rosa – who has an outstanding warrant from the International Criminal Court – to mount a successful leadership coup.

“All of a sudden, Bato comes out. He came out there just for the coup so that (the majority) has 13 votes. He was then protected by the Senate and eventually left,” the veteran economist said.

“I don’t know what’s happening to the senators because they are losing their moral compass. That’s the problem,” Monsod said, with protesters shouting “Judas!” while ringing bells.

The majority, Monsod said, should “all be ousted.” As for the minority, she said they should “stay.”
