DAVAO CITY, Philippines — President Duterte said he is set to fire another Cabinet official as well as other government officials for corruption when he returns to Manila today after spending the weekend here in his hometown.

“Every table in government… it’s greed and there’s always a monkey wrench. Every table ‘yan kung magdaan (if it passes there, then there is) corruption. Kaya ako pagbalik ko (When I go back) maybe tomorrow, I’ll be firing a lot of people simply for corruption,” he said during the 25th national convention of the National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines in Iloilo City the other night.

Duterte did not reveal the identity of the officials he would axe next, but stressed that the country will not go anywhere and would continue to lag behind its neighbors if corruption is not stopped.

He pointed out that corruption takes place when people are made to go back and forth for the approval of licenses, permits and other necessary documents they are applying for.

The President has already dismissed several government officials, including Cabinet members who were reported to have been involved in corrupt practices while in office.
