MANILA, Philippines – Jim Brickman believes that love songs will continue to live on.
He’s the person behind the hit songs like “Love of My Life,” “My Valentine” and “Destiny” that generation today still get to appreciate.
“I think there’s such appreciation with romance and love and beauty in the Philippines. So that is why, I think, love songs last forever,” he replied when asked why he thinks his songs still live on, in an interview with philstar.com on Friday.
It has been a while since he last had a show here in Manila. The warm reception he received and the appreciation of his Filipino fans for his music made him feel he needed to come back.
“There’s such appreciation for the beauty of melodies and love song,” he said. “No matter what are the changes in the music business, they still have appreciation for the beauty of the love song. I feel like, whenever I meet my Filipino fans, they’re so incredibly kind and supportive and musical.”
What makes his concert extra special is he gets to perform his greatest hits with renowned international singer Lea Salonga and John Trones.
“I love Lea!” he exclaimed when asked how he felt doing a show again with her. “She has recorded so many of my songs and we just performed together in California just a year ago. So I’m absolutely thrilled.”
Brickman related that what he appreciate the most with Lea’s interpretations of his songs is she understands by heart its meaning.
“It’s very important that singers know what they’re singing about,” he explained. “Not just to have a good voice, but know how to interpret the words. So she understands how important it is to convey the spirit of the work, not just to sing it.”
Catch Jim Brickman with Lea Salonga and John Trones on “The Platinum Tour” which will happen on August 8 at The Theater in Solaire Resort and Casino.
