MANILA, Philippines — Bea Alonzo and Vincent Co's intimate civil wedding drew public attention not only for its understated elegance, but also for one unexpected detail: their minimalist wedding cake cost just P3,000 and was handled by the bakery as a regular customer order.
The simple buttercream cake, adorned only with the words "Just Married," was made by Maginhawa-based bakery Wadough's.
Its founder, Chef Wado Tan Siman, said the team had no idea the cake was for one of the country's most recognizable celebrity weddings.
"It came as a regular cake order, just like the rest of the cakes we got that day. We had no clue it was for Bea Alonzo's wedding," the bakery shared.
According to the bakery, the cake featured layers of red velvet, vanilla and chocolate, filled with tablea ganache and finished with smooth buttercream frosting.
Despite serving as the centerpiece of Bea and Vincent's wedding celebration, it carried the same P3,000 price tag as the bakery's standard minimalist cake.
The move resonated with many online, as it contrasted with the lavish, multi-tiered wedding cakes often associated with celebrity weddings. Instead, Bea and Vincent chose a design that reflected the quiet and intimate nature of their civil ceremony in Makati City.
Following the release of Bea's wedding photos, the bakery said inquiries poured in from customers hoping to order the same design.
"This exploded our inbox for Wadough's," Chef Wado said, referring to the overwhelming response after the wedding cake gained attention online.
Bea confirmed her marriage to Vincent by sharing a series of black-and-white photographs from their July 13 civil wedding, including a snapshot of the minimalist cake.
