MANILA, Philippines — BamBam of K-pop group GOT7 will not be serving in Thailand’s military.
According to reports, BamBam, whose real name is Kunpimook Bhuwakul, has been exempted because there were enough volunteers in his district.
He was in Thailand on April 9 to participate in the annual lottery for the country's military service.
For Thailand’s search for members of the armed forces, potential recruits select a card out of a box. If he picks out a red card, he will serve for two years.
But if it is black, he will be declared exempt.
Fans took to the social media to celebrate the 20-year-old K-pop star’s exemption as #BamBamBlackCard trended worldwide on Twitter.
BamBam debuted in 2014 as a member of GOT7 after being a trainee under JYP Entertainment for about three and a half years. The group released a music video for its single “Look” last month as part of the “Eyes on You” EP.
NCT’s Ten was earlier declared exempt from Thai’s military service after he was deemed unfit due to his past injury and knee surgery.
He recently released the track “New Heroes” as part of SM Station 2.
