The trio of Tricia Gullas, advertising manager Tina Poblador and photographer Iste Sesante provided the much needed boost for the swimming team as they carted two gold medals each to also take the crown in the women's division.
Gullas ruled the 25 and 50 meters backstroke events while Poblador reigned in the 25 and 50m freestyle.
Sesante, for her part, dominated the 25 and 50m breaststroke.
The three gold medal winners and with the support of Entertainment editor Nathalie Tomada also went on to grab the gold medal in the 4x25m relay.
Cebu Daily News, which is also the defending champion in the women's side, won two gold medals courtesy of May Rosales to place first runner-up while SunStar Daily was third with one gold.
Rosales topped in the 100m freestyle and breaststroke events while SunStar leaned on Jovie Taghoy, who made the mark in the 100m backstroke.
Over in the men's division, The Freeman sports section assistant editor Rafael S. Alas III won in the 25m backstroke, giving the lone gold medal for the The Freeman even as SunStar Daily took the men's overall title.
SunStar won five gold medals courtesy of Mark Lozano in the 25 and 50m breaststroke, Mark Daruca in the 50m backstroke and William Rama in the 50m fresstyle,
They also were uncontested in the 4x50m freestyle relay.
Cebu Daily News leaned on vice president Alex Reyes who topped in the 100m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke and sports editor Rick Gabuya in the 25m freestyle.
On Sunday, the track and field and parlor games will be played at the Cebu City Sports Center oval with The Freeman again expected to challenge defending champion Cebu Daily News.
