Liloan preparing to become a city

CEBU, Philippines – Liloan town Mayor Vincent Franco "Duke" Frasco yesterday said newly-completed and on-going projects being undertaken are designed to make Liloan the next city in northern Cebu.

Frasco and members of the municipal council called a press conference yesterday to announce the accomplishments of his administration in the first 84 days under his administration.

Mayor Frasco said most of these projects were started during his first term and some of these were completed during his second term.

Frasco said these projects were made possible through the support of the provincial government and national officials.

The money used for the construction of the new public market in Barangay Jubay in Liloan town came from the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Senator Jinggoy Estrada.

Barangays Catarman, Cotcot, Tayud and Tabla now have street lights.

Other projects include the new Rural Health Center in barangay Cabadiangan, new covered court in barangay Lataban, the improvement of the water system in Cabadiangan, and the construction of deep wells in barangays Catarman, Jubay, San Roque, San Vicente, and Yati.

The completion of Panphil Frasco Gym in barangay Poblacion was also given priority by the town, with the municipality allocating P5 million while the provincial government contributing P5 million.

Frasco said the town is also hastening the cementing of barangay roads in Tabla and Upper Yati and improving the delivery of health services and education at the barangay level.

He said the town has also distributed free notebooks and backpacks to all Grade 1 and day care pupils, granted monthly allowance to all barangay tanods starting last month, granted monthly allowance to all barangay health workers (on-going), awarding DUKE scholarships to high school and college students.

The municipality has allocated P1 million for the implementation of the scholarship program.

At present, a total of 242 students have availed of the scholarship program.

Frasco has also granted financial assistance to residents of the town who are confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Eversly Child Sanitarium Hospital.

Townspeople also enjoy free legal consultations. (FREEMAN)
