CEBU, Philippines - A woman was killed while her husband and son were injured after they were shot by a robber last Wednesday night in sitio Banica, barangay Lugo, Borbon town.
Epifania Ybañez, 54, died of a gunshot wound in the neck while her husband Edgardo Sr. and son Edgardo Jr. suffered graze wounds in the abdomen.
Police said Epifania was inside the house with her daughter Anna Marie, 21, around 7 p.m., when a man armed with a gun and wearing a bonnet suddenly entered and announced a hold-up.
The victim refused to give in to the demands of the robber and was shot in the neck while her daughter ran outside for safety.
Epifania’s husband and son heard the commotion and tried to overpower the robber but were shot and injured in the process. However, Edgardo Sr. was able to hack him in the back before he fled.
The three were rushed to the Juan Dosado Memorial Hospital in Sogod where Epifania was declared dead on arrival.
Police investigation showed that earlier that day, the couple received money from the Social Security System office.
Cebu Provincial Police Office director Sr. Supt. Carmelo Valmoria said that they have already identified the assailant but has refused to reveal his identity pending police operations. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
