MANILA, Philippines — Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg announced Wednesday (Manila time) new key features that the social network will roll out soon, as he vowed to ensure that the “powerful” tools will be used for good.
Here are some of the upcoming features on Facebook.
Dating
“We’re building a feature for dating and relationships within the Facebook app,” the company said.
According to Facebook, users will soon be able to create a dating profile that is separate from their Facebook profile. Potential matches will be recommended based on dating preferences, things in common and mutual friends.
Clear history
The world’s largest social network also disclosed its plan to build a “clear history” tool that would allow people to see the websites and apps that send information to Facebook when they use them, as well as delete this information from their account.
Augmented reality camera for Messenger
“This feature, launching in closed beta, helps people get valuable, instant feedback about purchases, and more,” Facebook said.
“Developers will be able to build experiences that let people virtually customize or try on merchandise, walk through new products, or simply express themselves in a fun way,” it added.
Message translation
Facebook also plans to use artificial intelligence to enable buyers and sellers in its Marketplace platform to communicate across languages with “M suggestions” for translations.
Translations from English to Spanish (and vice-versa) will be initially available in Marketplace conversations taking place in the US. In the coming weeks, the feature will be gradually expanded to people using Facebook Messenger in the US.
Crisis Response
“Today we’re introducing a feature that will enable people affected by a crisis to share firsthand accounts of timely information, like road closures and damage photos and videos, making it easier to get real-time updates,” Facebook said.
“The feature will be rolling out later this year.”
