BALUNGAO, Philippines — Members of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Pangasinan chapter traveled through rain for a special mission, holding not microphones but seedlings of various species for the annual “Oplan BroadcasTreeing” held in Barangay Pugaro in this town on Aug. 25.
Unmindful of the heavy downpour that at the time inundated anew some areas in the province, the Pangasinan broadcasters were joined by some members of the police, town government employees and other sectors as they planted 2,000 tree seedlings to help in promoting awareness about caring for the environment.
Mark Espinosa, KBP-Pangasinan chairperson, said Oplan BroadcasTreeing is an environmental advocacy of the group since 2011.
Espinosa added that this is in response to the call of the KBP national chapter for a simultaneous tree-planting activity on Aug. 18 across the country, but Pangasinan chapter rescheduled it due to flooding and intermittent heavy rainfall.
Espinosa thanked Abono party-list led by Rosendo So, the municipal government of Balungao led by Mayor Philipp Peralta, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of the Interior and Local Government, National Grid Corp. of the Philippines and others for their invaluable support to the project.
Meanwhile, Liga ng Barangay municipal president Joselito Peralta, who is also barangay captain of Pugaro, thanked the local broadcasters and other media practitioners for choosing his barangay as venue of the project this year.
