MANILA, Philippines — The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) facilitated the travel of close to 52 million Filipinos in 2024, and is bound to hit the 200-million passenger milestone before July.

PITX yesterday reported that its passenger volume grew by 32 percent to 51.56 million in 2024, from 39.16 million in 2023, fueled by the entry of more public utility vehicles (PUVs).

As such, PITX president Jaime Raphael Feliciano said the landport would hit the 200-million passenger mark in the first half of the year based on the trend.

PITX achieved the 150-million passenger milestone in 2024 and expects a quicker step to 200 million as the terminal’s daily traffic increases. To date, PITX has served 178.9 million travelers since opening to the public in 2018.

Between 2018 and 2024, PITX also logged 5.4 million departures from city and provincial buses, modern and traditional jeepneys and ride-hailing services. Currently, commuters can reach over 105 destinations – 72 provincial and 33 in-city – through buses that stop by PITX.

In 2024, PITX added six routes in Luzon and two in Visayas, expanding the nationwide coverage of the landport.

Moreover, PITX has seen an increase of as many as 20,000 passengers daily since the Light Rail Transit Line 1 opened in November 2024 a station that links directly to the terminal.

“The consistent rise in daily foot traffic since our opening in 2018 highlights increasing reliance of commuters on PITX as a safe, seamless and convenient transport hub,” Feliciano said.

Feliciano expects more commuters to see the value of PITX once the Cavite Bus Rapid Transit is completed. The project, costing P1.87 billion, will connect to PITX through point-to-point buses, making the terminal a midpoint between Metro Manila and Cavite.

Given all of these developments, Feliciano sees the PITX enhancing its role as an intermodal hub that integrates multiple means of transport in Metro Manila. He said the long-term goal for PITX is to tie it up to as many transport modes as possible.

“We remain committed to enhancing PITX’s role as the country’s model landport by improving intermodal transport solutions and boosting overall commuter experience,” Feliciano said.

In February, Ayala Land Inc. started putting up the P5.2-billion Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange, which is expected to benefit 160,000 commuters daily once it opens by 2028.
