MAP names Shell’s Chua as Management Man of the Year

MANILA, Philippines - The Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) has named Shell Companies in the Philippines (SCP) country chairman Edgar Chua as this year’s MAP Management Man of the Year.

The “MAP Management Man of the Year” is a prestigious award that the business group bestows on individuals in the business community or government for attaining distinction in the practice of management and for contributing to the country’s progress.

The MAP said Chua was chosen as this year’s Management Man of the Year “for his exemplary leadership in steering the SCP to a level of sustainable growth and profitability that is admired by other Shell companies around the world.”

He was likewise chosen because of his leadership role in the substantial contributions of the SCP to national development and job generation through its  investments in clean energy development and business process outsourcing as well as for promoting a culture of excellence among SCP employees and motivating them to deliver high-quality products and excellent service for customer satisfaction, while at the same time providing them the opportunity to achieve their personal goals.

The MAP noted that Chua has helped strengthen the identity of the SCP as a socially responsible firm through the Pilipinas Shell Foundation’s developmental programs on education, health care, environmental protection, science, arts and culture.

These programs have improved the lives of many Filipinos all over the country.

Under Chua’s leadership of SCP, the MAP said he has likewise shown that companies can operate profitably while adopting corporate social responsibility and sustainable development as integral parts of overall corporate strategy.

The MAP added that Chua has contributed to re-shaping national values by setting an example for Filipino professional managers through his track record of unblemished integrity, professional competence, and strong leadership in his management career.

The “MAP Management Man of the Year” award has only been conferred 37 times in the 46-year history of the award.
