Julian snatches big victory despite slip in qualifying set

MANILA, Philippines - One Racing mainstay Mary Allison Julian finally found her groove as she emerged the Formula SL Expert champion recently in the fourth leg of the 2013 Coca-Cola Karting Super Series at the Boomland Kart Trak.

The 16-year-old Julian, back from a disappointing finish in the qualifying heat, topped the pre-final and final races to clinch her first season triumph for One Racing Team powered by MyPhone, Tony Kart, AIM Racing Gauges, ORG Racing Gear, Sparco, HJC Auto Helmets and the Active Group.

As the riders jockeyed for position, Julian, an Ateneo freshman,  figured in a mix-up that forced her early exit on the 14th lap of the qualifying heat. The incident, however, made her a more determined fighter. Showing consistent driving and even more impressive defensive maneuvers, she upstage perennial winner Yvana Carangan in both the pre-final and final races to capture the Formula SL Expert plum.

The victory also proved Julian’s intense desire to achieve a major career milestone. With mechanics and crew of  One Racing supporting her on  her kart’s set-up, she post a personal best lap time of 32.585 in the qualifying heat.

Same thing goes for teammate and last year’s Formula Cadet Novice champ Jose Luigi Lachica who remains a force to contend with in the Formula Cadet Expert class following his strong third place finish, clocking third fastest laptime of 33.846 seconds.

“Both Allison and Jose Luigi reached that  level of racing maturity where karting turned into more of a passion than an interest, and set their focus not just on winning a race but more on achieving career milestones that will leave their distinct mark in the history of Philippine karting,” said One Racing team manager Chito Benito.

“Definitely, they can rely on the all-out support of One Racing to help them reach their pursuits as we expect them to level up their games and deliver better finishes in the coming races,” he added.
