MANILA, Philippines - Television host and singer Billy Joe Crawford was released from jail after posting P6,000 bail yesterday afternoon, police said.
Crawford’s release order was issued by the Taguig Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 75 at 5:30 p.m., city police chief Senior Superintendent Arthur Felix Asis said.
Crawford was detained for creating trouble inside a police station in Taguig Sunday.
The Taguig police filed a string of charges against him after he went berserk and kicked the glass door of the police community in Bonifacio Global City.
The charges against Crawford stemmed from a complaint earlier filed with the Taguig City Prosecutor’s by two female police officers for alarm and scandal, direct assault, malicious mischief and disobedience to an agent or person of authority.
Prosecutor Arthur Pefianco said the metropolitan trial court of Taguig set a bail of P2,000 for each charges filed against the TV host.
Pefianco said the complaints of direct assault, alarm and scandal were dismissed during the inquest proceedings as the incident did not happen in a public place.
He said Crawford did not seriously resist the police officers in such a manner that he intended to defy the law.
Pefianco said Crawford’s lawyers agreed to wait until the complaints are recommended for filing before posting bail for his release.
In their complaints, Police Officers 1 Rodelma Canao, 29, and Jasmine Zipagan, 28, said Crawford, 32, arrived at the police community precinct (PCP) 7 at the Bonifacio Global City at around 4:30 a.m.
The police officers said Crawford was under the influence of liquor.
Canao said she politely greeted Crawford who allegedly shouted: “Bring me to your headquarters! I want to go to your headquarters not here!”
She said she tried to pacify the TV host but he allegedly told her that if he would not be brought to the Taguig police, he would destroy the precinct.
Canao said she and Zipagan again tried to pacify Crawford but the TV host pushed them away and allegedly punched the glass door of the precinct.
They said Crawford returned to the precinct and scattered documents placed on a table.
At that point, Police Officer 2 Anthony Llagas and Police Officer 1 Francis Nicholas arrived and pacified Crawford.
The policemen arrested the Crawford when he continued to resist.
Crawford later apologized and admitted he was under the influence of liquor when he asked the police to hold him.
