Gwen to tackle traffic woes in Consolacion

CEBU, Philippines - Governor Gwendolyn Garcia will hold a meeting next week with traffic departments of local government units, the private sector, and the Department of Public Works and Highways in response to concerns raised by Consolacion Mayor Teresita Alegado and barangay Tayud captain Blesselda Villo.

Alegado and Villo claim big trucks and vans that traverse the town create heavy traffic from 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“We raised this issue, in fact, we have a plan to ban these trucks and vans but we were advised not to because the road is a provincial road and if we imposed it, traffic will build up in Liloan,” she said.

Alegado said if Mandaue City allowed these vehicles to pass, there would be no problem.

Garcia directed Cebu Provincial Engineer Eulogio Pelayre to take a picture of the traffic buildups in the town.

Villo asked the Provincial Engineers to put up signs where excavations are being done in relation to the road-right-of way to avoid accidents.

Garcia instructed Pelayre to act on it immediately. (FREEMAN)
