MANILA, Philippines — Lawmaker Kiko Barzaga (4th District, Cavite) has been released after posting bail over cyberlibel cases against him.

According to media reports, Barzaga posted a P384,000 bail before the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 147 on Monday, April 13.

The Cavite lawmaker surrendered to Dasmariñas police Monday evening after a Makati court ordered his arrest on eight counts of cybercrime.

The charges involve alleged violations of Section 4(c) of Republic Act No. 10175, or the provision that penalizes cyberlibel.

The court has set the bail for him at 48,000 per count.

The cyberlibel complaints were filed by tycoon Enrique Razon and House Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno.

Razon sued Barzaga for cyberlibel in January over claims made by latter on social media about the former's involvement in bribery and corruption.

Meanwhile, Puno filed a complaint regarding Barzaga’s allegations that Razon bribed National Unity Party members to back former Speaker Martin Romualdez for the upcoming 2025 polls.

In November, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group also filed complaints of inciting to sedition and rebellion against Barzaga.
