It’s great to be back home after being away for more than a week and yes, I can’t seem to erase the grin on my face each time I think of how Cebu Country Club edged Canlubang for second place overall in the 64th Philippine Airlines Interclub last week in Cagayan de Oro City and the town of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
Although the Cebuanos only finished second to co-host Del Monte Golf Club, having beaten the much-hyped Canlubang was a major feat in the magnitude of a championship finish.
The PAL Interclub seems to be becoming more interesting with the changes that the organizers have introduced and I hope to someday see more Cebu teams figure prominently in the tournament.
My sources say that for the 2013 edition of the tournament, Cebu is going to offer a bid that would involve four golf courses – Cebu Country Club, Club Filipino, Mactan, and Alta Vista.
That’s something to look forward to.

After writing about it since late last year, the Davis Cup tie between the Philippines and Japan will be happening starting this Friday.
The event seems to have gotten a lot of support not only from the tennis fans, but also those who are aching to watch an international event of this magnitude here in Cebu.
I haven’t visited the Plantation Bay Resort and Spa recently due to my out-of-town assignment, but I have been told that the venue is ready for the three-day event, which the Filipinos hope to wrap up by the second day.
If you don’t have a ticket yet, Efren Belarmino, general manager of Plantation Bay, told me yesterday that there are limited tickets on sale at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall.
Tickets are sold at P500 each while season passes are at P2,500.
This will be the first time that Cebu would host this level of competition for tennis. If this one is successful, then definitely we will have even bigger events in the near future.
With the new international-standard clay court at Plantation Bay, we have a good venue for another tennis event that would bring the top players from other countries to our shores.
See you at Plantation Bay this Friday and the weekend.

It will be a busy weekend for Cebu sports as the clinic to be handled by former stars of Major League Baseball will also be happening on Thursday and Friday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City. If you are confused where that is, it is near the Cebu North Bus Terminal.
The clinics will start tomorrow and will have no less than one of the biggest stars of the MLB, Ken Griffey, Jr.
Those interested to join can contact Jesse Bernad at 0917-3222284.

MILESTONES: Belated greetings to a very close friend, who has shown a lot of dedication to sports particularly basketball. I am referring to Chester Cokaliong, who celebrated last week.
Belated greetings also go to my nephew Nino Renzo Quiñones and my cousin Jacqueline Frasco, who turned a year older last Monday. My high school classmate Carmina Therese Jumamoy, who was born on February 29, will have to make do with a belated greeting for March 1 as this is not a leap year.
The same goes to Jewel Evidente-Lim, Aracheli Lipardo-Galan, and Marco Polo Plaza Hotel’s Anabelle Lumapas.
Today’s greetings go to Mayor Allan Ecleo I of San Jose, Dinagat; my wife’s niece Julie Reyes Barns, sportswriter Jonas Panerio, and Dr. Larissa Diaz-Roa.
More power to all of you!
