As I write this, Hizzoner Mike is leading Tom O in the mayoral race. This was what he had kept saying all along: “We can make things happen.” It did happen.

The last election showed many political greenhorns rise from nowhere and beat the old turks silly. Manny Rabacal observes: “Daghang sunoy nanaug batok sa derby cocks.”

Ma'am Gwen is winning in her congressional district but it looks like she's losing the Capitol altogether. I had thought she'd recapture the Capitol if and when brod PJ beat Jun-Jun Davide. But I didn't have another thought coming.

A political analyst who requested anonymity said the sudden rise to No. 1 of Grace Poe was unexpected. She was never rated high in the surveys. It was in effect a repeat of the sudden rise to the top by Jojo Binay in 2010.

This reader-analyst's observation is correct. But I dare say, never to discount pre-poll surveys altogether. The senatoriables who were all mentioned in the SWS and Pulse Asia surveys all came out in the 2013 list of winners except that they were not ranked according to the places they landed on in the recent polls.

OVERHEARD. Election watchers were heard talking about the dismal showing of Tom O against Mike Rama. One said: “Ang bullying nga nadawat ni Mike gikan ni Tomas gibayran na sa kahitas-an ug kadaugan.” Replied someone: “Bitaw sah. Ang tanang klase sa insulto, pagtamay, ug uban pa natilawan ni Mike gikan ni Tomas:” Said another: “Pero ing ana man gyud na ang politika, di ba?”
