CEBU, Philippines - A man with health issues ended his life Thursday dawn inside his room apartment in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.
He was identified as Pablo Espinosa Sr., 80, who lived in Urbanito Apartment in Sitio Cemento.
The victim was known to be diabetic and suffering from heart and lung complications.
Police officer Jomar Florentino of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office - Homicide Section led an initial investigation with the help of Shonrey Ylaya, the grandson of Espinosa who also lives in the same apartment.
Espinosa's suicide happened at around 2:30 in the morning.
Ylaya said that he saw his grandfather sleeping in his room at around 1 a.m. He was then awakened by a loud bang that came from Espinosa's room.
He found his grandfather lifeless on the ground bathed in blood prompting him to immediately call for help.
Florentino added that the victim shot himself in the right side of his head.
The police recovered one snub of a .38 cal. pistol with undertermined trademark, one empty shell and four live ammunition from the same firearm,as well as one unit of NextG cellphone.
The police said that the victim told his grandson that he was tired of his life which led him to end his life on Independence Day. — (FREEMAN)
