CEBU, Philippines — Chinese fighters Weiyi Jiang and Tuohatasen Sailibieke of Jianzhi Stable are both locked and loaded to invade Cebu for the seventh edition of the “Fist of Fury” boxing series promoted by sportsman Lorenzo “Chao” Sy on June 28 at the Cebu City Sports
Institute Gym in Barangay Sawang Calero.
Jiang will slug it out with Dave “The Hunter” Peñalosa for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Silver lightweight title.
Peñalosa sports an impressive 19-1 record with 12 knockouts, while Jiang has only fought thrice in the pro ranks but has a wealth of experience as an amateur.
Sailibieke, on the other hand, will tackle Vicente Unidos from Consolacion, Cebu in an exciting duel of undefeated bantamweight contenders.
Sailibieke, who scored a smashing first-round stoppage of Michael Adolfo in his first bout on Cebu soil last April 11 at the Barba Sports Complex in Toledo City, holds a clean 5-0 slate with 3KOs, while Unidos is unscathed in four matches with 3KOs.
Interestingly, Jiang and Sailibieke are trained by veteran Cebuano ring strategist Jingjing Tepora, who is the older brother Big Yellow Gym head coach Christopher “Pingping” Tepora and former WBA interim featherweight champion Jhack “El Kapitan” Tepora.
“Andam nami. I prepared my Chinese fighters para makahatag og saktong lingaw sa mga fans. Bisa’g Filipino among kontra, this is sports, this is boxing. Trabaho lang, walang personalan,” said Tepora. — (FREEMAN)
