Decision time

FEEL THE GAME - Bobby Motus - The Freeman

The 45-day run will end on Monday and of the numerous entrants, only a select few will cross the finish line and be declared winners. The rest will stumble and fall, perhaps thinking why, in the first place, had they entered the race and had incurred so many expenses along the way.

To help them to the road to victory, platforms of governance take a backseat because people want to see them dance, some with moves difficult to describe.  Gimmicks range from motorcades to the generic t-shirt with candidates’ images printed on it.   Some freely gave away cash and one made kilaw a banana leaf.  Wow, dahon.  Tarpaulins hung anywhere and wherever making some areas look like they’re gift wrapped.

And yes, there’s the 20 pesos per kilo rice distributed at select areas in Visayas, Cebu particularly.  Wow, beinte.   Why not also in Luzon and Mindanao?  Because of their European and Wakanda forever feels?

I believe our country has enough resources to feed the whole population of about 116 million people.  It is hindered by uneven distribution of wealth and the greed of some.  Selling this kind of rice at p20 per kilo is not a long-term solution, especially when the supply runs out.

Some winners will gloat, who cares about being humble in victory.  Some losers will groan and grumble, not accepting defeat.  In life, as in sports, we win some, we lose some or in this case, more.

What will the winners do?  Hopefully, make good on their campaign game plans, but frankly speaking, the three-year term given to local executives is not enough for a no-nonsense program to be properly implemented.

Pray that winners for the 12 senate seats will not include those actors and talk show host because that will only add to a few already warming their seats, effectively making the supposed hallowed halls of the highest law-making body of the land a circus.  Random surveys had two of these come backing actors in the top 10.

The losers?  Re-study game plans, improve strategies, maybe align with the winning team and more importantly, generate a considerable war chest.  There’s three years to prepare for another battle.

Decisions will be made on Monday.  The choices we make dictates the life we take for the next three years.
