Cebu City Sports Summit a success

CEBU, Philippines — Close to a hundred participants from various sectors took part in the first ever Cebu City Sports Summit that was a resounding success over the weekend.
Anchored on the theme “The Intersection of Sports Medicine and Leadership in Shaping the Future of Sports Performance”, the distinguished speakers shared valuable insights into how advancements in sports medicine, coupled with strong leadership, can drive athletes to reach new heights. Their expertise highlighted the importance of blending scientific knowledge with leadership strategies to ensure a sustainable sports development.
The attendees included coaches and teachers from the Department of Education, local coaches from both public and private sectors, as well as doctors, physical therapists, nurses, athletic trainers, and other professionals involved in sports.
“Their active participation showed a shared dedication to improving the quality of sports performance and athlete care in our city,” said Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) Chairman Dr. Rhoel Dejaño, the organizer of the two-day summit that is in line with the vision of mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia to provide quality service to Cebu City residents.
“Sports, with its power to inspire, unite, and uplift, serves as an effective avenue to help drive his vision forward. By strengthening our sports programs and empowering our sports professionals, we are investing in a healthier, more dynamic, and more engaged community,” Dejaño added.
As the city’s sports czar, Dejaño said one of his key thrusts is to provide continuing education for all stakeholders.
“It is essential that we stay updated with the latest innovations, techniques, and best practices so that we can raise the level of sports in Cebu City and ensure that our athletes and teams are always ready to compete at their best,” Dejaño continued.
“The summit is just one of many initiatives we are rolling out to fulfill this mission. Moving forward, we aim to organize more programs that will help strengthen not just our athletes, but also our coaches, educators, and health professionals who form the backbone of Cebu’s sporting success.”
Grateful and feeling fulfilled, Dejaño extended his heartfelt thanks to everyone who, in one way or another, have contributed in making the event more meaningful and inspiring especially to the Cebu City Sports Commissioners and the dedicated staff of the CCSC.
“Their hard work and commitment made this event possible. Special thanks as well to the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM) Visayas Chapter for their valuable collaboration as all our doctor-speakers are proud members of this esteemed organization. Together, we can build a stronger, smarter, and healthier sporting community for Cebu City,” Dejaño ended. — (FREEMAN)
