ARQ’s Bryx Piala suffers early exit in WBC Grand Prix

CEBU, Philippines — Bryx “The King” Piala of Cebu’s ARQ Stable crashed out early in the inaugural World Boxing Council (WBC) Grand Prix at the BLVD City Global Theater in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia recently.

This after Piala lost by unanimous decision to the undefeated Tanzanian featherweight prospect Juma Choki in the Round of 32 of the global tournament.

After six rounds of action, judges Jun Bae Lim and Juan Carlos Pelayo both scored 59-55 while Predrag Aleksic penned it 58-56 all in favor of Choki, who stretched his perfect record to 10-0 with 3KOs.

The 23-year-old Piala fell to 9-3 with 3KOs after suffering his second straight defeat on foreign shores.

In his previous match, Piala was stopped in the fourth round by the unbeaten Japanese knockout artist Mikito Nakano (12-0, 11KOs) in their Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) featherweight title fight on September 7 last year at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. — (FREEMAN)
