Cebu FC makes Top 4, secures spot to PFL Finals Series

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu FC Gentle Giants fought to a 1-1 draw with the Davao Aguilas UMAK but that was all they needed to clinch a Top 4 seat in the Philippines Football League (PFL) Season 2024-2025 at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex over the weekend.

Davao broke the ice of the match at the 25th minute courtesy of Gabriel Costa Goncalves, but Cebu FC scored the equalizer via Guytho Marcus Mijland at the 83rd minute.

Roberto “Papu” Corsame was named as Man of the Match.

Adding feather in Cebu FC’s cap was Florencio “Jun” Badelic Jr., who grabbed the Golden Glove award as the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper.

The Gentle Giants ended their campaign with 31 points on a 9-5-4 win-loss-draw record that vaulted them to the Finals Series, an entirely different tournament featuring the four best performing teams from the regular season.

It will be contested after the Holy Week, with the Gentle Giants taking on the top seeded Kaya FC Iloilo, the second-ranked Manila Digger and the No.3 seed One Taguig FC.

The winner will represent the country in the 2025-26 ASEAN Club Championship that is also known as the Shopee Cup later this year. — (FREEMAN)
