Dejaño vows continued growth of Cebu City sports

CEBU, Philippines — Renowned sports medicine doctor Rhoel Dejaño has vowed to work hard for the continued growth of sports in Cebu City after being appointed by mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia as the new chairman of the city’s sports commission.
Dejaño’s appointment took effect last February 24.
“I am deeply honored and grateful for the trust and confidence that Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia placed in me by appointing me as Chairman of the Cebu City Sports Commission,” said Dejaño in a statement.
“It is with great enthusiasm that I accept this responsibility, and I am excited to contribute to the continued growth of sports in our vibrant city,” added the “2024 Sportsman of the Year” by the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC).
Dejaño, who holds the distinction for being the first ever Filipino doctor to have passed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Diploma Course in Sports Medicine, takes over from John Pages, who is still with CSCC as one of its commissioners.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to my predecessor, Mr. John Pages, for his remarkable leadership over the past years. His achievements in guiding the commission have been commendable, and while it is indeed a challenge to follow in his footsteps, I am fully committed to doing my best to continue the important work he has begun,” Dejaño furthered.
Looking ahead, Dejaño shared with much excitement the two major events he is working out in the coming months.
First is the Cebu Sports Summit where the CCSC we will invite experts to discuss crucial topics such as sports medicine, sports conditioning, psychology in sports, and sports nutrition.
“These are key areas that will undoubtedly benefit our athletes and sports community,” Dejaño said.
Additionally, Dejaño is planning a classification workshop for PWD athletes to make sure that they will be properly categorized in future competitions, allowing them to showcase their skills at the appropriate level based on their disabilities.
For Dejaño, it’s an important initiative to ensure inclusivity and fairness in sports.
“I hope to live up to the expectations of our beloved Mayor and work together with all stakeholders to continue developing and improving sports in Cebu. Thank you once again for this incredible opportunity,” Dejaño ended. — (FREEMAN)
