UV bets unbeaten in SBP Passerelle tourney

CEBU, Philippines — The University of the Visayas swept the field to claim the top seeded spot going into the playoffs of the SBP division of the BEST SBP Passerelle Twin Tournament backed by Milo.

The SBP Lancers defeated Don Bosco Technology Center Cebu, 67-40, for its third straight win at the Sacred Heart School Mango Avenue campus gym.

UV led from start to finish, opening up leads of 9-2 and 20-10 after the first two periods. They then raced to a 31-16 lead after three quarters to settle the outcome.

John Carl Baring led UV with 13 points as Josef Calo-oy had seven for Don Bosco.

In the other SBP game, SHS-Ateneo de Cebu trounced St.  Benedict Child Education Centre, 72-24.

In the Passerelle division, UV scored its second straight win, 67-40, over Southwestern University-Phinma.

SWU-Phinma took the first period 10-5 before UV replied for a 28-16 halftime lead that set the tone for the win.

Enricke Herbito and Denisvee Sinoy combined for 25 points to lead UV. Demien Hinoguin led the Baby Cobras with 12.

In the other game, Don Bosco overcame SMS-Boystown, 55-46, for its debut. Renz Cabunilas led the Greywolves with 10 as Leo Comodas has 12 for SMS-Boystown. (FREEMAN)
