VISCOM chief visits Eastern Visayas units to boost troop morale
CEBU, Philippines — To boost troop morale and sustain effective command and control, Lieutenant General Fernando M. Reyeg, Commander of the Visayas Command (VISCOM), recently conducted a series of visits to military units in Eastern Visayas.
The visit included stops at the headquarters of the 803rd Infantry Brigade in Catarman, Northern Samar; the 87th Infantry Battalion in San Jose De Buan, Samar; and the 8th Infantry Division headquarters in Catbalogan City, Samar.
This initiative aimed to assess the ongoing security and stability operations in Eastern Visayas and to evaluate the readiness of troops assigned to election duties for the upcoming 2025 mid-term national and local elections.
During his engagements with the troops, Reyeg personally commended their exemplary service and urged them to maintain their momentum.
"We have achieved significant milestones in our campaign here in Eastern Visayas. Let us sustain our gains and continue to press on the fight," he said.
He also underscored the vital role of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in supporting the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the election period.
"Let us provide an environment where our people can exercise their right to vote freely without fear or intimidation. Let us uphold the highest standards of service and ensure the success of this democratic process," he added.
A total of 2,848 personnel have been placed on alert to assist the COMELEC and PNP in ensuring a fair, orderly, and credible election.
The visit also featured a recognition ceremony honoring 25 officers and enlisted personnel for their outstanding service. Among the awardees, seven received the gold cross medal for gallantry in combat, six were awarded the silver cross medal for exceptional achievements in special operations, and 12 were conferred the gawad sa kaunlaran medal for their significant contributions to socio-economic development.— (FREEMAN)
